The What’s Next, Alberta? Student Challenge

About The Challenge

Building on the new podcast, What’s Next, Alberta? is a 3-week design sprint challenge delivered in partnership with Innovate Calgary for current University of Calgary students. With the growing trend of urbanization, we know that smaller Albertan communities are facing limited growth opportunities in comparison to larger cities – and we strongly believe that can change. With Connect First’s knowledge and footprint across Southern Alberta, we’re looking to you for unique ways to help smaller communities grow and prosper.

Why Get Involved?

• Showcase your talent to a local employer at the early stages of a real-life project.
• Sharpen your creativity and problem-solving skills through exposure to collaborative modern innovation methodologies.
• Work across cross-functional groups and perspectives to create sustainable ideas.
• Opportunity for the best group idea to split $1,000 between them.

Good To Know:

• There is a mandatory virtual commitment of 4-6 hours per week, inclusive of facilitated sessions, independent ideation and group coaching clinics.
• There is no need to pre-form into groups before applying.
• At the end of the sprint, each group of 4 will be asked to present a 600 - 1000 word brief of their idea, and be prepared to informally present & discuss.

February 23, Time TBC - Sprint Kick Off

March 2, 1-3pm - Facilitated All-Group Ideation

March 4 & March 9 - Afternoon Group Innovation Coach Clinics (30 mins)

March 18, 1-2pm & 3-4:30pm - Evaluation & Leadership 1:1
