The events from the past weeks are a sobering reminder of the division created by racism and racial injustice.
We must all take this time to face harsh realities, reflect on our own biases, and acknowledge the importance of what is taking place.
At Connect First Credit Union, we have taken time over the past few weeks reflecting, listening, learning and engaging our employees to help us guide our next steps. We understand that our diversity is our strength; however, we also acknowledge that as an organization we have important work to do to create more equitable and inclusive communities for all.
We must work hard to eliminate systemic racial discrimination, while promoting an environment of diversity, inclusion and equality throughout Canada, and especially within the communities we serve.
Although we know that money will not solve this problem alone, as a first step, Connect First is proud to make a $10,000 donation to Action Dignity (https://actiondignity.org/) – an Alberta-based non-profit that works to promote racial equity and inclusion, and end systemic inequities.
But the conversation does not end here. We will continue to have meaningful discussions about our role in building a truly inclusive Alberta for all, and take tangible steps towards a better future.
